Video about Pret A Manger’s Emotional Labour

Another video mentioning my blog.

There seem to be YouTube accounts popping up lately with content on various companies and their practices, including Pret. But these are mainly AI, or at least using AI voices.

Two such accounts/videos mention my blog and gather info from my work. And I appreciate they credit back to my work.

The first is from Crisis Report UK (2. bottom video), and a recent one from January 2026 is from another new channel called HighStreet, already gathering many followers and views.

This recent video highlights Pret’s emotional labour practices while the first Crisis Report UK video concentrates on the customer deaths and Pret’s poor response to it.

All these channels seem to use AI voice. The HighStreet video is the best researched and FINALLY mentions Jeffrey Hyman who started the first Pret in 1983 in Hampstead. The HighStreet video made only 2 mistakes compared to other videos, they mention Hyman opened the first Pret in Camden, but it actually was in Hampstead.

The other mistake, which many people still do, is saying that Pret do or did “organic” food. But Pret never did nor claimed to do organic food. Pret claim to do organic coffee, but not food. They just did the signage in such a way that people ASSUME Pret do organic, thus cleverly putting the assumption on customers.

And people also still make the mistake to use Pret’s old logo of “natural” food at times. Quick recap, Pret were banned in 2018 from advertising their food as “natural”

I mention this because knowing Pret and how they lie, I question their claim to do organic coffee as well after they were rebuked already for their “natural” claim. And then changing their logo to “freshly” made, which is also a lie as I show in my post with photos of mouldy food etc.

I re-created Pret’s logo .to fit reality more. 😉

And the anger, dislike and even mocking of customers towards Pret is no more clear than in Pret’s Trustpilot scores. They used to be 1.8/5, but since I keep linking to these reviews on social media, many die-hard Pret fans come to Pret’s rescue and lift the score to currently 2.4/5 😀

But, the real unhappy customers will continue to review their experiences. 71% of reviews on Trustpilot (1 & 2 stars combined) are fed up with Pret for a variety of reasons. Scroll down to the blue oval sign saying “See all xxxx reviews”.

And a reminder in how former Pret CEO Clive Schlee who ignored customer deaths and injuries before it got public, left Pret with these Glassdoor staff reviews score in 2019:

So, I recognize a lotof what the HighStreet video says from what seems to be taken from my Pret Coffee Subscription Post and the BBC Report that came from what I write.

I worked at Pret A Manger and survived systemic workplace bullying during bereavement that involved HR, the top leadership, HQ and even the now “retired” former CEO Clive Schlee. Schlee has been appointed CEO of itsu in 2024 by Julian Metcalfe who gave him the CEO spot at Pret many years ago.
I declined 4 settlement offers if I am silent about my ordeal. But I rather speak out to help others. For an overview of important blog entries of my experience with Pret, please visit “My Ordeal with Pret A Manger”. The little arrow to the right next to each heading will lead directly to the post.
An incomplete list on what other Pret staff say about Pret’s bullying environment: Caught in the Act Bullying at Pret and What shop MANAGERS & HQ staff say about Pret incl. CEO Pano Christou.
I tell my story for the first time verbally in below audio player interview on a podcast by The Adam Paradox, and wrote two articles in the Scottish Left Review as well as mentioned by the BBC.
